The 1979 Topps Baseball Cards Set is a 726-card single-series set. This marked the sixth straight year the Topps set was issued as a single series and the second year the set reached 726 cards. The set's key rookie card is Ozzie Smith.

• Record Breakers (#201-206)
• All-Time Season and Career Stat Leaders (#411-418)
• Rookie Prospects (#701-726)

As with most Topps sets of the era, cards are hard to find perfectly centered and command a premium.

For the first time since the award's introduction, members of Topps' All-Star Rookie Team are not denoted with the famous trophy icon. The trophy icon would not return until 1987.
